How long does the CASA medical examination take?
This depends on the type of medical, the tests that need to be done, the pilot's age and medical issues. In general, you should allow:

Class 1 - 45 to 60 mins

Class 3 - 45 to 60 mins

Eye Exam - 60 to 90 mins (Initial Class 1 & 3 only)
How long does it take CASA to process my medical application?
Processing times depend on CASA's workload & the complexity of your application. In general, (for uncomplicated applications) you should receive it within 20 business days.

How long is my medical certificate valid for?

Class 1, 2 & 3 medical certificates have different validity periods depending on the class of medical & the pilot's age:

Class 1 - Valid for 12 months (to 60 years) & 6 months (from 60 years)

Class 2 - Valid for 5 years (to 40 years) or 2 years (from 40 years)

How does CASA assess my fitness to fly?
​
The CASA aviation-medicine team assesses the aeromedical risk (or probability) of a pilot or ATC becoming medically impaired or incapacitated during operations. In general, this risk must be less than the accepted failure rate of any aircraft system or component.
